kutsuwamushi: (don't make me come back there)

According to DW:
The current policy is that although we provide tools for content makers to flag their content as NSFW or adult, we do not enforce these flags, so your community as a whole will not be marked as adult content unless you choose to do so.

Additionally, administrators of Dreamwidth communities can choose a higher warning setting for a post, so you will be able to enforce any rules about NSFW or adult content for your community without deleting a post.
I think that a happy medium will be to require posts that discuss sexually explicit material to have the "viewer discretion advised" (not "18+") rating, and for all explicit material to be put behind a cut that gives some indication of what you're getting into if you click it. I know that there is an issue with the flagged-content cuts over-writing the poster's own warnings, but if you're logged in and your settings are correct, it shouldn't appear at all.

I don't believe that discussions about representations of sex in fiction, even those that include quotes, are illegal or inappropriate for older teens. If it becomes an issue in the future, though, we'll have the option of going back to flag those posts, which we didn't have on LJ.

You can of course give your own posts a higher rating if you want.

About bannings:

If you were banned on the LJ community for breaking a rule like not deleting your posts, you'll be given a second chance here.

However, people who were banned for trollish behavior are still considered banned here, and will be removed if they are discovered to be posting.

James Potter's eyes are hazel. Not green. Not brown. Definitely not blue. I might be able to forgive green, depending on my mood, but brown will make me roll my eyes and blue will have me wondering when James became a metamorphmagus.

Sirius Black's eyes are gray. They are very much not brown or green or hazel. I'll let 'blue' slide on it's own, since I have gray eyes and I know very well that they often get classified that way, but do not call them 'sky blue,' 'bright blue,' 'ocean blue,' or 'sapphire blue.' Those are all very different colors. I don't get why it is that no one ever seems to make this mistake with Draco, but people make it with Sirius all the time.

Bill, Charlie, Percy, and Ron have blue eyes. Ginny has brown eyes. You could go either way with the twins, but fanon seems to have decided (for the sake of numbers?) that they have brown eyes. Either way, all of the Weasley siblings do not have the same eye color. You can say 'Malfoy eyes' and your meaning is fairly clear. That doesn't work with 'Weasley eyes.'

Yes, nit-picky rant is pretty nit-picky, but we are still trying to build this comm up.

This is a summary:

"In which [personal profile] gwenhwyfar discovers that it is best to have a goal in mind when visiting the Pit of Voles. Face/Palm, Head/Desk."

These things are not summaries:
  • "Prompts for LiveJournal communities. Updated daily."
  • "8DDD Not giving a summary 'cause I have no clue how to go about explaining it."
  • Random gibberish.
  • Song lyrics.
  • A list of several popular names for an officially nameless protagonist.
  • A poorly-punctuated explanation of why you wrote the story.
Also, while I can understand that fandoms will never, ever entirely agree on what to call characters who aren't given official names, can we all agree that "Protagonist" isn't really a good name for most characters, and that it's best to stick to one name instead of shifting between your two favorites a few times a chapter?
