Umm...no. You can't edit people's stories without permission just because you run an archive.
I'm not sure how this person thought that would be appropriate, but when she mentioned it to me I almost choked and I don't even write for that fandom. And we're not even great friends or anything; more like people with a common interest who sometimes catch each other free. So she didn't even seem to get that this isn't something to be proud of and actually thinks it's perfectly fine. WTF?
I understand that some archives have certain grammar standards and the like, but she was doing things like taking out words that she thought were unpleasant or didn't fit with her image of the characters and replacing them. And while it's a pretty small archive, so it doesn't affect a large amount of people, who expects to have to worry about that? How many authors go back and read their stories in an archive?
I contacted one of the authors that I think can deal with the matter without a lot of fuss because no one needs the drama, but who the hell even thinks that's okay to begin with?
OT - Glad to have even more incentive now to move to over here to DW.
